DO I REALLY NEED TO READ THE BIBLE?

I was introduced to the bible when I was very young. I grew up reading and learning the bible in our Sunday School class. I remember memorizing verses and knowing facts written in it.

I am a Christian and I believe in the Bible. I am thankful for my Sunday school teachers who help me know the bible at a very young age.

But what is the bible? Do I really need it? Will it make a difference in my life if I read it?

The Bible is the holy scripture of the Christianity, purporting to tell the history of the Earth from its earliest creation to the spread of Christianity in the first century A.D.

We believe that the Bible is the word of God and was written by man guided by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is not a book. It is a COLLECTION of 66 books, written over a span of 1600 years, across three continents by over 40 writers inspired by God in three languages. 39 in the Old Testament, and 27 in the New Testament.

The bible is the most read, most translated book and also the best selling book of all times.

It’s been translated into many languages from the biblical languages of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. As of October 2019 the full Bible has been translated into 698 languages, the New Testament has been translated into an additional 1,548 languages and Bible portions or stories into 1,138 other languages.

Every christian home have this book. And maybe have them in their own native language.

But not all people can freely own it. In some part of the world, owning or reading this book might cause you your life. Some people were persecuted, imprisoned and even die for reading, teaching or owing a copy of it.

BUT WHY DO WE READ IT?

  1. Reading the bible helps us to see who God is and how much He loves us. It is through reading the bible, we got to know our creator and how He desires to be in relationship with us.
  2. We get to understand the death of Christ. We can read and learn about Jesus, His life, death and resurrection.Through the bible, we can know his love and sacrifice us for.
  3. Reading the scripture helps us to know the truth. The bible teaches us the truth so we can stand firm on what we believe. In this world of lie and deception from Satan, the truth from the bible helps us to live our lives pleasing to God.
  4. We gain “Godly mindset” when we read the bible. Gods word guide our thoughts and action. Our heart , mind and action desires to follow and honor God daily.
  5. We learn to live with hope. With God’s word in our heart, we hope for all that God stored for us. That in this dark world, there’s a light. Our hope that someday we got to be in the best place God has prepared for us.

There are many other reasons to read the bible. So don’t just let this Holy book be a dust collector in your cabinets. Read it, meditate on it and live what it says.

The bible is the compass of our lives, it will direct us to the right way. It will help us to know the truth, truth that will lead us to a better life. Life that is pleasing to our God.
