Plastic products are everywhere and we all use it. We use plastic in so many ways but what is the problem with it?

Some people say that Earth is becoming “Planet Plastic”. Lets find out what plastic really is. According to Wikipedia ”
Plastic is material consisting of any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds that are malleable and so can be molded into solid objects. … Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass and often contain other substances. “

But the problem with plastic is most of it is not biodegradable. It doesn’t rot like the organic waste, instead it hands around in our environment for a hundred of years.

Each year tons and tons of plastic are made and 40% of it are single use. Example of single use plastics are grocery bags, drink bottles, and straws. This plastics enters the world oceans and harm animals whether in the water or land. According to experts,
the amount of plastic in the ocean will weigh more than the amount of fish in the ocean by the year 2050. Another issue with plastics is most of them are not recyclable.

Plastics contribute to health problems in humans and animals. Plastic and its byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and waterways. And if we don’t do anything i’m afraid in the future will be swimming in plastic waste.

WHATS BEING DONE

Most people now are aware of the problem and are making steps to help find solution. More and more people are joining in spreading the word on how to use reusable products. There are places that banned single-use plastics. Some stores are now charging for grocery bags to push people to use the reusable bags.

How about you? Are you doing your part?
