All of us wants to live longer, we all want to enjoy all the days of our lives. We eat, we work, we sleep, and move everyday.
But we sometimes neglect how to take care of our bodies. Our bodies which is the temple of the Holy Spirit according to 1 Cor. 6:19.
Even to most Christians, main focus is on the soul. I think taking care of the body is one of the least topic. We focus mainly on spiritual things. But I think taking care of our bodies, our health is spiritual too.
Our bodies is God’s instrument, its a tool that we use to glorify God with. Its our body that is being use to function and work for God’s ministry. And taking care of our bodies, by keeping it healthy is a form of worship too.
How can you serve God if you are sick? How can you fulfill God’s mission if you are weak? How can you function in your life if you are unwell. How can you do noble things for God, your country, and for other people if your body is not usable.
Our health is our own responsibility. God entrusted us with this body, and we are accountable on how we used it or abused it.
I think if we bring God in our healthy living, it will change everything. We will strive to honor Him in taking care of our bodies and we will make healthy choices.
HOW CAN WE TAKE CARE OF OUR BODIES?
EAT AND DRINK HEALTHY
Do you think God cares about what we eat and drink? Is He concern about what we put in our bodies?
I strongly believed that He cares and He is concern about what we eat and drink. He made us, we are His.
Don’t feed our bodies with just anything. Not with any food that looks good and delicious. Not all delicious food is good for our health.
Not because we have the money and the freedom to eat anything that we like, we’ll eat it. God gave us wisdom to choose.
Choose the healthy foods like Daniel (Daniel 1:8-16).He chose to eat vegetable and drink water instead of the kings meal. But he became healthier than many other.
It’s not that you have to copy Daniel by just drinking water and eating vegetable. But the emphasize here is to choose healthy food. Eat food with nourishment for your body. That will make you strong and healthy.
REST ENOUGH
People work for a living, but we are not just living to work. Our bodies needs rest.
The bible commands us that there is a day of rest. Even God took the 7th day for rest.
But sometimes we work and work and work and work some more. Our bodies get tired and sometimes sore. Our bodies show signal that it needed rest but we push it to work.
Doctors say rest is essential for physical health. Our bodies needs sleep to recharge. Experts say rest is essential for the mind and soul. We need to rest and recharge to be more productive. Rest is very much needed for a healthy and balance life.
I think the practice of resting one day a week is getting lost. All keep on working and ignores the day of rest.
Please consider a day of rest every week. Day to relax and recharge your body. Its a day to think and reflect on your life. Day for God and a day for yourself.
Don’t work so much and forget to rest. Don’t wait till your body stops you to work. Don’t wait till the day that your body is sick, that it force you to stop.
BE ACTIVE
We all know that exercise is good for our bodies. It improves our health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases. Physical activity improves the quality of our lives.
But with the busyness of life, between working and taking breaks. We tend to think that we don’t need to do exercise. There are so many reasons why people don’t exercise, some have no time(too busy), some are too tired(from work) and some don’t have enough motivation and option to do it.
According to fitness experts:
Exercising for 30 minutes at least 5 days a week makes you look and feel better while reducing your risks for many chronic conditions. Physical activity boosts your immune system and mental sharpness, and helps you avoid obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart problems.
We are reminded here that we have to move and be active. If we have time to sleep, time to work, time to watch tv, time to play or socially connect, we should have time to exercise too.
There’s great benefit in being physically active regularly. Lets think of this and try to do it.
NOW, consider these 3 reminders for us: Choose healthy on what you eat and drink, don’t forget to rest, and then move your body and exercise.
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones”
(Proverbs 3:7 – 8)
BE HEALTHY AND LIVE LONGER FOR GOD’S GLORY.
